  • One left wing group was the Spartacists who were led by Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxeumburg, they were strongly against Ebert's plans for democracy and wanted Germany ruled by soviets.
  • January 1919 in Berlin was where the Spartacists launched their bid for power. At the same time an anti communist group was set up called the Freikorps. Ebert appealed to them asking if they would put down the rebellion. They agreed and bitter street fighting began, the Freikorps won and the 2 leaders died.
