To investigate thermal stabilities of a metal carbonate:

• HEAT metal carbonate
• limewater produced

Sodium carbonate Na2CO3:

• HEAT Na2CO3
• bubbles seen in limewater (slowly)
• limewater not turn milky
• bubbles stop → NaCO3 not decompose when HEATED

(air in tube expands when heated = bubbles)

• thermally stable

Copper II carbonate CuCO3:

• green soild
• HEAT CuCO3
• bubbles seen in limewater
• limewater not turn mliky
• solid stays green
