Fuctionalism

Fuctional prerequisites - basic needs of society, social order is the most important
Functional alternatives/ functional equivalents - institutions that perform the same funtion as another institution, for example civil religion
Determinism- the view that people dont have free will
socialisation- is the internalisation of culture (norms and values)
Value consensus- sharing similar norms and values
social order- refers to the way in which society is organised along with certain rules and standards
Meritocracy- everyone has an equal opportunit to succed, the idea that those who work hard get rewarded through effort and ablity
Organic analogy- institutions in society are interdependent to ensure societies survival
