Durkheim: Education passes on norms and values in order to integrate individuals into society. This helps create social order as it gives society cohesion by way of achieving a values consensus.

Parsons: Education is a bridge between the family and adult roles in society. Schools pass on universal values of achievement as it is meritocratic

Davis and Moore: Every society sorts it members into different positions. Education does it through a set of rules (the principles of stratification) A system of unequal rewards ensures that people are motivated to train for the top positions.
