->developed from original writings of Max Weber;an early 20th century sociologist who argued that all occupational groups are constantly vying with one another  to improve their prestige and financial bargaining power.

Number of different techniques used but the two main ones are:

  • the creating of trades unions(which has traditionally been used by the working class)
  • the construction of professions(which has been used by the middle class).
