1) Guilt for the WAR- The Guilt Clause

This cluase was simple but harsh- Germany had to agree that it was guilty of starting the war

2) Armed forces of Germany

The size of the German army worried all the allies, but especially France. The treaty therefore cut German armed forces to way below their pre-war level

  • The army was limited to 100,000 men
  • Conscription was banned; soldiers had to be volunteers
  • Germany was not allowed armoured vehicles, submarines or aircraft
  • The navy could have only 6 battleships and 30 smaller ships
  • The Rhineland became a 'demilitarised zone'. It included all the land west of the River Rhine and an area 50km…
