Saarland:

Under the treaty of Versailles.. part of Germany called Saarland was governed by France for 15 years.. so that the French could get some German coal. in place of the French coalmines during WW1.

In 1935 the 15 years were up.. and the people of Saarland voted to return to German rule. This result made Hitler look good.

Remilitarising the Rhineland....

  • Under the treaty. the German army was excluded from a large part of Western Germany around the River Rhine..- To protect France from another German invasion..
