Aims of the League of Nations.

  • Cooperation in trade
  • Improve social conditions
  • Encouraged disarmament
  • Collective security


  • 42 countries originally- by 1930s 59 countries
  • Defeated and Communist countries couldn't join
  • America refused to join

America didn't join because:

  • It didn't want to be involved with European affair   
  • Belonged to the native Americans, a lot of these were Austria- Hungarians
  • Didn't want to spend money
  • Wanted to look after themselves

  • Met once once a year
