Group 1 metals all have only 1 electron in their outershell. The metals are very reactive. Lithium fizzes and releases hydrogen. It is the least reactive. Fizzes and releases hydrogen. Sodium - fizzes and moves around the water. Potassium releases a purple flame and skates along the surface. METAL + WATER = HYDROGEN + METAL HYDROXIDE.
