The Need for Food

Animals need food for; energy, heat, growth & repair of damaged cells, protection of illness and disease. 

Proteins = carbon, hydrogen, oxygen & nitrogen

Fats = carbon, hydrogen & oxygen

Carbohydrates = carbon, hydrogen & oxygen

Carbohydrates are make from simple sugars.

Protein is made from amino acids.

Fats are made of fatty acids & glycerol.

Digestion is the breakdown of large particles of food into smaller particles to allow absorption into the blood stream through the small intestine wall.

Digestion involves the breakdown of insoluble food substances into soluble food substances. Digestion is split into two types; mechanical, which is physical break down and chemical which is the breakdown of large molecules into smaller ones using enzymes.
