The Nazis and Jews

HideShow resource information

1% of Germans were Jews in 1933. However, there was a lot of anti-semitism.

Why were so many Germans anti-Semetic?

  • Jews were traditionally blamed by Christians for the death of Jesus
  • Racially and culturally different
  • Conspicuously successful in the professions - Doctors, lawyers etc
  • Very prominent in the arts and publishing

People thought that the Jews had too much of Germany's wealth and too much influence in German life.

Hitler also believe that the so-called Aryan Master Race could be contaminated by the racially inferior Jews.

Actions taken against Germany's Jews

Hitler needed Jewish capitalists to get Germany back to work and didn't want to lose support so moved slowly against the Jews at first.
