Passing an electric current through a wire produces a magnetic feild around the wire. If you put that wire into another magnetic field you have two magnetic fields combining. 

A current in a magnetic field experiences a force, the force expierenced by the current-carrying wire in a magnetic field is known as the motor effect. The force get's bigger as either the curren or the magnetic field is made bigger…
