Messiah - the anointed one

  • The expression 'anointed one' found in the Tenakh describes the kings of Israel who, in a ceremony of being recognised as the king, were anointed with holy olive oil
  • The term messiah is understood by Jews to be a reference to a future King of Israel who will be a descendant of King David and who will rule the Jewish people during the Messianic Age
  • Orthodox Jews include a prayer, which they say at the end of the morning weekday servicem in which they pray for the speedy arrival of the Messiah

The Messianic Age
