When Erik The Red settled in Greenland in 982AD the climate was warmer and Greenland was largely free of ice. By 1100 Greenland had over 200 farms and a population of 3000 - 4000.

Life was hard but the Vikings survived there for over 400 years. Soon after 1410 they died out. This coincides with The Little Ice Age.
