‘The idea that there is a distinction between body and soul is an illusion’

It can be argued that the idea that there is a distinction between body and soul is an illusion as we do we do not know whether we have a soul a soul or not. This would mean that this distinction between the body and soul was an illusion created for comfort so that people feel that when they die that this will not be the end because there soul will continue living on , but in reality this would not happen.

 

Aristotle is a philosopher who would argue that this is all an illusion as he specifically believes that the soul and body are inseparable. To explain this he uses the imagery of a wax tablet with a stamp impressed on it showing that the soul and body are the same, thus cannot be separated. This would mean that this distinction is an illusion, particularly towards the after the life as it would misguide people into believing that the soul lives on when the body dies when in fact they are inseparable so the soul cannot survive the death of the body in any way.
