Piedmont:

  • this was the only other state that saw a revolution erupt in 1820.
  • Victor Emmanuel I pursuaded a reactionary policy since his return. He declared that the old constitution from 1770 will be put back into force and never be changed, meaning that Piedmont will remain an absolute monarchy
  • when news reached Piedmont of what was happening in Naples, discontent revealed itself
  • the Carbonari gained new members from university students to army officials and liberals who took to the town of Alessandria where they announced their independence as the 'Kingdom of Italy'
