Based on Piager and the theory of Cognative Development in children. By using Conservation tasks of Mass, Number and Volume. Piager always used 2 Questions both before and after the transformations. He found that children passed the tasks at the ages of 7-8 years as they entered the concrete operational stage of development.
Aims:
- To test conservation ability in children aged 5 to 8 years and to see wether having a pre and post transformation question was an influencing factor on the responses given.
IV:
- One question Format- 3 conditions; 2 questions, 1 question and fixed array
- Age of child- 4 groups; 5, 6, 7 or 8 years old
- Materials used- 3 forms; Mass, Number and Volume
DV:
-Number of errors on each conservation task
Controls:
-All participants aged between 5 and 8 years
-Same tasks used
-Repeated tasks 12 times per participant
-Same questions asked
-Each task perfromed 4 times by each participant
-Each child only has 1 question type
