The main two types of court where a case will be heard are the Magistrates and Crown. The Magistrates court deals with minor offences but all cases will start off here before being transferred to the Crown if serious.

In the Magistrates there is a panel or a bench of three individuals who will serve as the judge of those proceedings. They are helped by a legal advisor though as it is highly unlikely that all three members will clearly know what the law states and what is appropriate. There can be a professional judge as well also known as a District Judge.
