There are certain chemicals that industries need thousands and thousands of tonnes of every year - Ammonia, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide and phosphoric acid are four examples you should know.  Chemicals that are produced on a large scale are called bulk chemicals.

Some chemicals are not needed in such large amounts - but that does not mean they are less important.  Chemicals produced on a smaller scale are called fine chemicals some examples to learn are drugs, food addictives and fragrances.
