The Call of the First Disciples

How the nature of discipleship is shown in the call of the first disciples:

- Jesus calls the disciples "fishers of men"; he is using this metaphor to show his followers that these disciples, who once caught fish, will no, theoretically, be 'catching' people. Encouraging them to believe in Jesus and enter the Kingdom of God.

- As "fishers" their job would have required them to have a great deal of patience- waiting for fish to enter the nets, getting up early, staying up late. Though this metaphor Jesus is showing his disciples (those who believe in him) that, like fisherman, they must be…
