The UK and EU and Sovereignty

UK and the EU

  • EU does have influence over some of the outcomes of the UK, Mcdonnel v UK in 2014
  • However UK can just ignore the rulings, deadlock for two years over prisoners right to vote from 2016
  • EU can also influence the UKs economic standings, restrictions on british fishing industry
  • However due to Brexit referendum 2016 by 2019 it will no longer be relevant
  • EU could still have some influence over the UK after its depature, UK remaining in customs union as a part of Mays deal in 2018
  • However very unlikely to have any legal influence, Mays deal ensures complete Parliamentry sovreignty over EU law
