Truman Doctrine: 

Came after events in Greece and Kennan's Telegram 

Monarchists vs. Communists- both wanted power after Germans retreated in 1944

Churchill sent troops to "restore and keep order" during the elections 

British actually supported Monarchists 

USSR protested to UN presence of British troop was a threat to peace in Greece - UN took no action

Civil War developed (1946-49)

Britain forced to back out in 1947 as too weak after WW1 and could not afford war - US took over and paid for British troops to stay in Greece

US intervened to stop Communists making Greece a Soviet Republic - clash of ideaologies
