The three stages of the Russian Civil War

Stage 1: June - November 1918 (Reds vs Greens)

• In May 1918, the Czech Legion began to travel across Russia on the Trans-Siberian railway, taking possession of several towns
• Local Socialist Revolutionary leaders negotitated with them and set up a government under their protection, controlling an area of several thousand square km in Western Siberia
• This government ended in November 1918, when WWI ended and the Czech Legion travelled home; a White army under Admiral Kolchack took over and arrested the Socialist Revolutionary ministers
