The Suffragettes: Their Goals, The Actions They Took and Their Success

Who were the suffragettes?
In the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, many women began campaigning for equal rights with the men; particularly the right to vote. Two main groups formed - the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (a.k.a NUWSS or Suffragists) and the Women's Social and Political Union (a.k.a WSPU or Suffragettes). The groups used different tactics but were campaigning for the same thing, used the same colours (green, purple and white) and the same motto (Votes for Women).

What were their goals?
