The Sinking of The Lusitania

The Lusitania was sailing from New York to Liverpool on 1st May 1915. It was a dangerous voyage as the German Embassy had printed adverts in newspapers saying any ships entering the European war zone were a potential target for German submarines. Many passengers still boarded as they believed they were under no threat, an ordinary civillian vessel shouldn't have been any use to the Germans. Any passengers who had doubts were reassured when rich and famous people boarded such as millionaire Alfred Vanderbilt and wine merchant George Kessler.

As the Lusitania reached her half way point on the 4th May the German U boat U20 appeared on the Irish…
