The Schlieffen Plan

When the Kaiser allowed Germany's alliance with Russia to lapse, Germany's long term rivalry with France became even more threatening as they could now be attacked on two fronts. In 1907 Russia joined the Triple Entente making Germany even more vulnerable as the Triple Alliance was now surrounded.
