The Role Of chromosomes and hormones in sex and gender

?

The Role Of Sex Chromosomes- Each person has 23 pairs of chromosomes which contains hundreds of genes with information about our physicality, eye colour, predisposition to certain mental health issues e.c.t . One set of chromosomes are called the sex chromosomes because they determin whether an individual sex is going to be male or female. ** is female and XY is male and their is usually a direct link between the chromosomes and the external gentialia of a child, those of have ** chromosomes will have a vagina and those who have XY would have a penis. This also would determin internaal genitalia as those with ** will have ovaries and those with XY would have testes. In the begining both male and female have the same genitalia up until 3 months where the males start to develop due to the testes producing testosterone.

Atypical sex chromosome patterns- Klinefelter's Syndrome (KS) is due to a **Y configuration in males, they are born with a penis and develops as a fairly normal males. Aprox 1 in 1000 males have this condition. They tend to be taller than the average male, may be less muscular coordinated than average, phsyically look less masculine than males due to the lower levels of testosterone e.g. less facial hair, broader hips, possible breast tissue. Often infertile.
