SEPARATION OF POWERS

there are 3 branches of the US government; the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. in the eyes of the founding fathers, these would be; independent yet co-equal; separate in terms of personnel; operate checks and balances on each other; promote the desired concept of limited government. it is the founding fathers who thought this type of government would be the only kind of institutional structure which would prevent tyranny. this means complete separation of personnel, as if one individual was in more than one independent branch of the government, they would hold too much power.
