The Periodic Table

Metals are found on the left-hand side and in the middle of the periodic table.

Non-metals are found on the right-hand side of the periodic table.

Properties of metals :

• Good conductors of electricity
• High melting points
• Good conductors of heat 
• Sonorous - ring when struck
• Ductile - can be drawn into a wire
• Malleable - can be hammered into shape
• Shiny
• Metal oxides form basic oxides

Exceptions :

• Alkali metals have low melting points and are not sonorous
• Mercury has a low melting point
