War against Granada:

  • Bordered with Castile
  • F + I wanted to promote the ideal of a holy war to unite all of Iberia penisula under Christian rule
  • Dec 1481 raid on Andalucia by muslims (triggered war)
  • Muslims were difficult ro defeat
  • 1482 - 1492 = 10 year war
  • Victorious = F + I
  • Talavera was made Archbishop of Granada 1492
  • Change under Cineros 1499 = rebellion of Alpujarras 1499 - 1500, less tolerant, confessor to Isabella
  • 1501 Grandad was catholic in theory
  • Money from Explusion of Jews used to finance war = pay the debt
  • Brought unity for Spain 
  • Peter Martyr = that all states fought together
  • Reasons to conquer = Political, Economic, Religious, Social

  • Inquisition = influenced Isabella = Cisneros general also confessor to Isabella = to get rid of Muslims
