RELIGIOUS TEACHINGS ABOUT THE NATURE OF FAMILIES
FAMILIES
- ⁃ A family is a group of people who are related by blood marriage or adoption
- ⁃ The family is still considered the best environment for bringing up children and keeping societies stable
- ⁃ A nuclear family is a couple and their children regarded as a basic social unit (mother father and children)
- ⁃ 25% of children now live in single-parent families
- ⁃ There are more step families : a family that is formed on the remarriage of a divorced or widowed person and that includes a child or children
- ⁃ Same sex couples may have children from previous relationships, IVF ,legally adopt children or use surrogates
- ⁃ Non-western cultures an extended family (A family that extends beyond just parents and their children by including grandparents and other relatives as well) unit is uncommon
- ⁃ More people in Britain are living extended family lives ,some young parents cannot afford full-time childcare and rely on other relatives .
