the normans made changes:

william built castles all over england 

castles were where taxes were collected

castles offered secure places for trade

normans spent money in local area which was good for economy

normans spoke old french

latin replaced old english as written language

monasteries were founded and reformed church

they rebuilt anglo-saxon churches in own style

anglo-saxon peasants had to pay more taxes+higher rents(norman lords wanted to make money out of their lands)
