- Charles - strong position - support from nobiity, gnrety and many royalist soliders who had fought in the Thirty Years War (1618 - 48)
- First major battle - Edgehill in Warwickshire - not a clear victory but allowed rpyalists to march south to try and take London.
- King's army held up at Turnham Grenn by loads of volunteers who prevented the royalists from taking London.
1643
- Royalists organised to take a three way attack on London.
- But, stopped by parliaments control of the navy.
