  • Charles - strong position - support from nobiity, gnrety and many royalist soliders who had fought in the Thirty Years War (1618 - 48) 
  • First major battle - Edgehill in Warwickshire - not a clear victory but allowed rpyalists to march south to try and take London. 
  • King's army held up at Turnham Grenn by loads of volunteers who prevented the royalists from taking London. 

1643

  • Royalists organised to take a three way attack on London. 
  • But, stopped by parliaments control of the navy. 
  • The parliamentry control over 3 main naval
