The features of industrial unrest 1910-14

Unions amalgamated to combat Employer's Federations'. For example the National Transport Workers federation of 1911 co-ordinated the activities of 30 unions. In 1912, the three biggest unions began to discuss amalgamation, the Triple Alliance of miners, railway workers and transport workers was formally ratified in 1915. It had 1.3 million members and its strikes were large scale affecting vital power supplies and communication. Railway strikes came at a time when there was a threat of war and Dockers' strikes affected food supplies. 1913 saw nearly 1500 strikes. There was even a school children's strike in 1911. In 1910, a strike caused rioting and police and troop action which led to one death and 500 injuries.
