The effects of video games and computers

Experimental studies-

Short term increases in aggression and hostility have been demostrated by lab studies. Aderson and Dill- Participants blasted their opponents with white noise for longer and rated themselves higher on the state hostility scale after violent game play.

Experimental studies AO2- Can only measure short term aggression and therefore give no indication of the long term efffcts of video games. As well as this, it is unethical to measure real life aggression so self report techniques are used and measures such as increased heart rate. Therefore they have low ecologucal validity. Correlational studies have a strength over these because they are able to measure variables that are unethical to measure in a lab study.
