Atmosphere and composition of gases
Sedimentary rocks
- Made of seperate grains, made of small sediment that is stuck together
- Are porus - have gaps between the grains that air and water can get in, and are soft
- Easily scrape grains off the surface
- Often contain fossils and contains layers
- Examples - Limestone, Shale
Metamorphic rocks
- Doesn't contain layers, sometimes contains fossils
- Usually non-porus - no gaps
- Made when heat or high pressure changes a rock that already exists
- Examples - Marble, Slate
Igneous rocks
- Form when liquid rock cools and freezes
- Consists of crystals, have no gaps, contain layers, hard
- Made from interlocking grains
- Doesn't contain fossils
- Examples - Granite, Basalt
