Hitlers goal was Anchluss with Austria (union) However the treaty of Versailles had forbidden the two countries to be unified.

The Austrian Chancellor Dolfuss, banned the nazi party as he thought they were tearing the country apart.

The failed coup

In 1934 Hitler ordered Austrian nazis to create havoc in Austria becasue he wanted to overthrow the government.Chancellor dolfuss was murdered but the coup FAILED because the Austrian military intervened to back up the government.
