• August 1958 all private farming was abolished
• Sputnik Commune, first commune established in July 1958 
• by the end of 1958 740,000 co operatives had been re organised into 26,000 communes 
• 99% of people lived in a commune by the end of 1958 
• Creches and boarding schools provided, allowing women to be released and work in fields alongside men 
• 90% of women were in agriculture from 1958-1959, a big leap 
• in reality women couldnt produce as much as men, meaning they only got 50% of the food
