Charles I was a complete contrast to James I

  • Historian Michael B. Young has argued that 'he consciously set out to make himself the opposite'
  • He lacked self-confidence, had a stammer and was very shy
  • He didn't like to explain his actions so he could seem unapproachable and uncommunicative
  • He was unwilling
