• 1871 royal comission started investigation into the CDAs 
• Report in 1871 recommended the CDAs destruction 
• 1883 CDAs were suspended 
• 1886 the acts were repealed 
• Public prayers held outside parliament on the day of the debate, clear form of public pressure 
• However there were other factors, Gladstone big advocate for their repeal
