The Beginning of the Civil War
On August 22nd 1642, King Charles raised the standard at Nottingham and the Civil War began; for many, it was a situation nobody had expected even as it crept closer in the years before.
Who had the advantage at the start of the Civil War?
Parliament's advantages
=> Parliament was in charge of the capital city, London. This meant they had 400,000 people to tax in the centre of trade ande wealth in the UK
=> Parliament had a group of 'trained bands' in London, as well as a large population to choose from for an army
=> Parliament was in control of the main sources of artillery as it had Bristol and Hull particularly, where there were huge arsenals left from the civil war
