The Battle of Gate Fulford 

(september 1066)

• Harold Godwinson crowned King of England by Witan in 1066.
• Harold new that the other rivals to the crown would be quick to invade ( William of Normandy and Harold Hardrada).

Harold took four majour steps to secure the crown=

1. Confronts Edwin and Morcar

2. Marries Edwin and Morcars sister

3. Edwin and Morcar agree to defend the North from Hardradas threat.
