Behaviourist Approach

·         Behaviourist - someone who believes human behaviour can be explained in terms of conditioning 

·         People are products of their environment - every complex behaviour has been learned

·         Learning is under control of the environment

·         Only observable behaviour should be studied, speculations shouldn't be made about mental processes

Classical Conditioning

·         S = Stimulus is detected by an organism

·         R = Organism emits a response

·         Reflex – not learned, innate instinct e.g. S = something in baby’s hand R = grasp

·         Born with set of reflexes e.g. salivating at sight of food but everything else learned
