·         She introduced the most radical reform of education since 1944 and compulsory free education.

·          For a number of years there had been criticism of State Schools.

·         It was worrying for many, especially the left leaning middle classes, that many of the middle classes sent their children to fee paying schools, despite the money spent on state education. I

·         n the mid-1980s, private schools were flourishing like never before.

·         In the 1988 Education Act, Thatcher introduced the following reforms;
