Bendict's test for reducing sugars

All monosaccharides and some disaccharides are reducing suars. This means they can donate electrons or reduce another molecule or chemical.

The actual test uses the chemical Benadicts reagent, an alkaline solution of copper 2 sulfate.

Method:

1) Place the testing sample into a boiling tube in a liquid form. (if solid grind it up with water to make a liquid)

2) Add an equal volume of Benedicts reagent.

3) Gently heat the the solution in the boiling tube in a water bath for five minutes.

It's all about the Cu  ions, if
