TECTONIC HAZARDS
EARTHQUAKES are sudden and violent periods of the ground shaking. It is most commonly caused by a sudden movement of rocks within the earths crust. This occurs mainly at the margins of tectonic plates where plates are moving and pressure builds until it needs to be released. Some DO NOT occur at plate margins as they are caused by human activity such as: underground mining or oil extraction.
