Becker -  Discusses the idea of the 'ideal pupil' and explains how teachers will assess and judge students according to the charcateristics of this. These include; female, white, middle class and quiet. 

This closely links into the idea of self fulfilling prophecy, which is when a student will act in the way they are being perceived. Basically, when students are given a positive label, they will react to this by creating a positive self-concept and vice versa.
