Systematic desensitisation is based on the principles of classical conditioning. This is because phobias are learn through a stimulus and an association with the certain stimulus that is the phobia. The aim of systematic desensitisation is to help de-condition the feared stimulus as well as helping the client to rech the top of the anxiety hierachy. There are two different types of systematic desensitisation and these include invivo and invitro. Invivo is where the individual confronts the stimulus face to facer and invitro is where the individual confronts the stimulus articially for example by looking at a picture of the feared stimulus. The first type of thing that is done in systematic desensitisation is the us eof the anxiety hierachy.
