Synod of Whitby: Milestone in Celtic Church

Activities of the peregrini pressured uniformity for missionaries abroad. In Gaul they were met with oposition by French bishops about dating. 

Kathleen Hughes: "In Ireland the effects were indirect and ill-defined." Churches in South already conformed 30 years before Whitby. Northern churches didn't conform until 30 years after at the 2nd Synod at Birr.
