Surds

Surds are roots that cannot be rounded exactly.

e.g √7= surd; √9= not

Ex. Simplify

a) √128               b) √500                       c) √98

√64 √2                    √100√5                       √49√2

= 8√2                    =10√5                           =7√2

Harder example of rationalising the denominator

√39     √3     √39√3  √117  √9√13  3√13 ( 3's cancel eachother out)
